Achieving job performance from empowerment through the mediation of employee engagement: an empirical study

Abstract

In present scenario, business organization understood the importance of sophisticated employee behavior for the development of overall job performance.  It is important for an organization to perform effectively for that it enhances their employee’s job performance. Many study supports that an empowered employee recognizes and attaches himself or herself with the wider extent of organizational objectives. An engaged employee has more ownership and able to contribute towards his/her own growth and overall productivity. Boston focuses on implementing feedback given by employees with immediate effect and has 43% employees who are highly engaged. Facebook has a culture of contribution and each employee is recognized for his contribution to the overall goal of the company “to make the world more open and connected ". This policy of contributing culture is communicated to all the candidates during recruitment process. That is why Facebook is not only known for being one of the most popular social networking platforms but for its highly engaging culture as well. 

Under this study, the focus is to understand the relationship between employee empowerment and job performance. The study also tries to explore empirically the mediating effect of employee engagement in this regard. It was conducted on IT sector in Delhi NCR region with a sample size of 182 employees.  The finding of the study reflects that engagement has its mediation effect on job performance with respect to employee empowerment.

Nidhi Shridhar Natrajan, Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies (SCMS), Noida

Dr.Nidhi S.Natrajan is a seasoned teaching and research professional, having 14 years
of experience. Apart from teaching core programming papers she has special interest in management
flavor of IT, like E-business, Software project management, social media and virtual team management.
She has many research publications on same to her credit, including InderScience, Elsevier and
Bloomsbury. Graduate in Mathematics, she holds master’s degree in Computer Application and PhD in
Business Management in the area of Virtual software projects in India. Currently she is working at
Symbiosis Centre for Management, Noida.

Dr. Rinku Sanjeev, having 16 years of vast experience as an academician and as corporate trainer, conducted training programs in different Corporate and Government Training Institutions like Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), THDC India Limited, SRIRAM Automotive, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), etc. An alumnus of IIM Calcutta for Executive Program in Human Resource Management, She has also obtained PhD and MBA in Human Resource Management (HRM) and MA in Psychology.

 She has presented and published several research papers and, is a member of Editorial-Board & Review-Board for different National & International Research Journals and publications. Besides this, she has authored one book and edited five books in the area of management such as ‘Re-Branding of Employee Relationships: The Paradigm Shift’ and so on.

Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Apeejay Institute of Management, Jalandhar

With a varied experience of 19 years in corporate, academics and research, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar
Singh is currently associated with Apeejay Institute of Management, Jalandhar, as Senior
Faculty- Marketing area in MBA Program. He earned PhD, in the area of Retail Service
Marketing, and MBA with specialization in Marketing Management. There are several
research papers and book reviews publication in his account. He also presented several
research papers in different International and National Conferences and Seminars.
Having extensive experience of Industry and Academics in the area of Marketing & Sales, he
also managed diverse responsibilities in addition to the regular Academic/ Teaching
assignments, as Academic Coordinator, Research Project Guide, Project Evaluator and
Career Counselor.
